KAMAZ Trucks against Snow

27 November 2014

Today, Sergey Kogogin, General Director of KAMAZ, has met with Nail Magdeev, Head of the Executive Committee of Naberezhnye Chelny, to discuss the supply of the city with snowplows on KAMAZ chassis.

During the meeting with the participation of Gabriel Boschung, Director General of the Swiss company Boschung, special vehicles produced by Boschung KAMA – a joint venture manufacturing municipal vehicles developed by KAMAZ in partnership with Boschung Holding AG – were presented.

Mr. Magdeev could see a wide range of special vehicles Chelny’s municipal services need in the square in front of the city hall: compact vacuum machines, combined road vehicles, road cleaning machinery. The most popular vehicles in the winter will be Snowbooster and JetBroom Compact which have already proved to be perfect, especially under extreme weather conditions, with heavy snowfalls, snow-storms, blizzards, etc. The specialists from Boschung KAMA noted that the municipal vehicles produced at the joint venture can be used not only in winter, but also in other seasons, and assured the mayor of Chelny that they were ready to provide maintenance.

It should be recalled that Boschung KAMA Joint Venture was established as an answer to heavy snowfalls in the winter of 2011. Municipal services with their vehicles were unable to cope with the workload and barely removed the snow. So, the officials of Tatarstan had to quickly seek a way out of this situation. The best solution was to create a joint venture with Boschung – the world-known manufacturer of municipal vehicles. After negotiations between Sergey Kogogin, General Director of KAMAZ, Marcel Boschung, the founder of Boschung Holding AG and a member of its Board of Directors, and Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan, it was decided to organize the production of municipal machinery with Swiss superstructures in Naberezhnye Chelny, on the areas of the Kama Automobile Plant. Six months after the documents had been signed, more than 50 snowplows on KAMAZ chassis and Boschung winter superstructures, seven Snowboosters and two compact Pony vehicles with winter and summer superstructures were delivered to Kazan. KAMAZ’s specialists worked hard to adapt the Swiss municipal superstructures to KAMAZ chassis to meet customers’ requirements and Russian climatic conditions. Tests showed that special vehicles produced by Boschung KAMA are four times as efficient as other municipal vehicles.

Rustam Minnikhanov then highly assessed the quality of snowplows and noted that the use of KAMAZ chassis had significantly reduced operating costs compared to foreign trucks. He also mentioned that the new vehicles had served to fight against the aftereffects of snowstorms in Kazan. “This program cost us nearly half a billion rubles – a billion was given by the republic, and the city attracted 500 million roubles”, Mr. Minnikhanov said and added that it was important to continue expanding the fleet of snowplows. Next is Naberezhnye Chelny.
