KAMAZ Approves Quality-2017 Program

30 January 2017

By order of Sergey Kogogin, General Director of KAMAZ PTC (part of Rostec State Corporation), the Quality-2017 program and Quality Objectives for the current year have been approved at the company.

The first order issued at KAMAZ this year is, as usual, devoted to quality assurance. "Document numbered one, which indicates the priority of this area, specifies a vector of our work in improving the quality of products in 2017," said Sergey Kogogin.

Emphasizing the importance of this work in the current market conditions and the influence of demand on quality, the general director of KAMAZ cited the example of successful sales of the KAMAZ-5490 long-haul tractor - the flagship of the auto giant's new range. Given the optimal "price-quality" ratio appreciated by customers, this model competes with trucks made by leading European manufacturers. As a result, KAMAZ's sales and share in the segment of long-haul tractors increased greatly as of the end of last year.

In 2017 the company has set a task to reduce an audit past assembly (APA) index by 10%, the number of defects per vehicle (DPV) by 20%. Requirements for vehicles of the advanced line are tougher: it's planned to achieve a 50% and 25% decline in APA and DPV, respectively. In general, KAMAZ intends to reduce losses due to rejects by 30% for the year.

Besides, in accordance with the SQDCM format, this order specifies the company's objectives in the field of occupational health, safety, environmental and lean production in 2017.

As for the results of work in 2016, KAMAZ achieved significant results in quality improvement. Compared with 2015, the number of defects per vehicle (DPV) decreased by 24% and the audit past assembly (APA) index by 28%. KVP groups are working at all factories of the company revealing and solving quality problems. The economic effect of the KVP groups' activities exceeded 107 million roubles.
