Students Learned about Foundry

1 February 2017

A regular guest lecture with the participation of Dmitry Gurtovoy, Chief Technologist of the foundry of KAMAZ PTC (part of Rostec State Corporation), was held at Naberezhnye Chelny's branch of KFU.

The lecture contained a historical journey, a presentation of today's foundry and its products, as well as information about prospects for university graduates by employment at the plant. The students learned about specific features and facilities of different production areas: iron, steel, non-ferrous casting, special types of casting and foundry equipment production. In addition, the chief technologist said that about six thousand factory workers were engaged in KAMAZ's long-term projects, the main of which is the development of a new engine. Implementing this project casters are busy with making more than 30 kinds of castings. "KAMAZ starts with the foundry. A truck is 50% cast, and 70% cast iron. And any specialists, whether he is a technologist, designer, economist, etc., planning to connect his career with KAMAZ, just needs to begin with the foundry," said Gurtovoy. "There won't be a complete view of vehicle production without this foundation. Specialists working at our factory are competent not only in casting, but also in further processing: mechanical working, operation. They are more integrated, comprehensive."

By tradition, the guest meeting organized by the members of KAMAZ Corporate University included an interactive dialogue with questions and answers. Knowledge helped Elmira Khafizova win and receive the exclusive grand prize - the statuette of a caster made at the plant. Two more guys got promotional souvenirs.
