VASILY FAUSTOV, SECOND DIRECTOR GENERAL OF KAMAZ, PASSED AWAY

On May 18, Vasily Alekseevich Faustov – the second director general of the largest Russian truck producing company KAMAZ who headed the plant in 1981-1987 – passed away in his 89th year of life.

A Soviet industrialist and statesman, Vasily Faustov began his career in 1952 as a foreman at the Yaroslavl automobile plant. In 1961, he took up a post of Director of Yaroslavl Fuel Equipment Plant. By Order of the Ministry of Automotive Industry, Vasily Alekseevich was appointed Director General of Kamsky Production Association for Heavy Trucks Manufacturing – KamAZ – in June 1981. He had been working at the post of Deputy Minister of Automobile Industry – Director General of KAMAZ till May 1987 when he left for Moscow to assume office as First Deputy Chairman of Gossnab of the USSR.

Excellent managerial skills, an ability to rally the troops to satisfy objectives enabled this top manager to achieve high results. When he was in charge, KAMAZ reached the highest production capacity: truck production grew from 85 to 128 thousand vehicles a year. Besides, the plant reached the highest daily vehicle assembly rate in its history – 500 units a day. Under the direction of Vasily Alekseevich Faustov, the corporate KAMAZ vehicle maintenance system developed and improved in the USSR and abroad – the network numbered 170 auto centres and repair enterprises. Together with the city's major enterprise, the city itself grew and developed. Dwelling houses, dozens of schools and kindergartens, pioneer camps, polyclinics and the Naberezhnye Chelny health care centre were constructed.

In the last years of his life, Vasily Alekseevich lived and worked in Moscow. His bright career ended with the position of Chief Expert at KAMAZ PTC's representative office in Moscow.

Vasily Alekseevich Faustov was awarded the Orders of Lenin, the Badge of Honour, the Red Banner of Labour, the Medal For Valiant Labour. In January 2018, Vasily Faustov was awarded the title Honorary Citizen of Naberezhnye Chelny for special services in the city, for a great contribution to the socio-economic development of Naberezhnye Chelny and for community work.

Director General of KAMAZ PTC Sergey Kogogin and the company's staff extend sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of V.A. Faustov on their irreparable loss. Vasily Alekseevich's name is written in the history of KAMAZ, his memory is embalmed in his colleagues' hearts.
