EVERY SECOND COUNTS
19 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from San Juan (Argentina),

"There are two specials similar to yesterday's section on the 13th day of the 2018 Dakar: 288 kilometers and 234 kilometers long, and 88 kilometers of "neutralization" between them. There are riverbeds in which it is sometimes difficult to drive, some low dunes, fesh-fesh, stones and a trial. For the participants, the stage Chilecito – San Juan is, perhaps, the last opportunity to avail themselves of off-road in order to somehow improve their positions in the general classification. Indeed, later, on the last two days of the race on the pampas as flat as a table to Córdoba, they will run on high-speed rally straight roads wh ere all participants will be equally fast, and it won't be possible to win back time. It will especially be difficult for KAMAZ's Eduard Nikolaev. Now hundreds of thousands of fans' attention is locked on confrontation Nikolaev vs Villagra. Being a sevenfold winner of the Argentinian National Championship for Classical Rally, Argentinian Federico Villagra, aka El Coyote, knows local tracks like the back of his hand. Of course, much depends on good luck in rally raids. And both the Russians and the Argentinian haven't been so lucky today. Dame Fortune probably decided to keep up the suspense till the very finish.

18 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from Chilecito (Argentina),

"The small provincial city of Chilecito saw its best years at the end of the 19th century when miners were thriving there. Near the city, there is a cablecarril Chilecito – La Mejicana 35 km long used for gold mining in the Sierras de Famatina. Now, only mine cars piled up in a heap on the skirts of the city commemorate bygone battles for pelf.

17 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from Belén (Argentina),

"30 trucks of 44 ones that had started on January 6 in Lima arrived at the start of the 10th stage of the Dakar rally. Not bad, given that there are more withdrawals from the race in other categories. Only 54 cars of 92 registered for the race initially started the special from Salta to Belén, 92 bikes of 139, 36 quads of 49 continued the race.

DMITRY SOTNIKOV WINS STAGE 8 AT THE 2018 DAKAR
15 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from Tupiza (Bolivia),

"It's just some kind of Groundhog Day at Dakar. No, it's rather déjà vu, a la francaise. The news feed is almost the same like last year. Due to rains, the next, ninth stage Tupiza – Salta was cancelled. A bridge was washed away on the track of assistance on the way to Salta (last year there was a landslide there). It became clear already yesterday that something was going wrong when the assistance crews arriving at the bivouac in Tupiza weren't allowed to enter it. The heavy rain made the fenced ground into a sheer swamp. By the morning the ground had been dry enough, by it could rain any minute, and in this case the vehicles would have got in a trap, unable to ran out. In the end, the teams' assistance crews lined up in a huge queue along the roadside, or began to unfold their service platforms near the racing headquarters. The assistance teams couldn't ran from here directly to Salta, because of border formalities at the bivouac (tomorrow the racers will run to Argentina), and, of course, the main thing is that in Tupiza it was necessary to meet the sports crews after the marathon stage La Paz – Uyuni – Tupiza.

LEADERS AGAINST ALL ODDS
11 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from Arequipa (Peru),

"The morning of January 10 has started with worrying news. In about half an hour after the trucks had started at the 268th kilometer of the special from San Juan de Marcona to Arequipa, the organizers informed that Eduard Nikolaev's crew fell on its side in the sands. Fortunately, already five minutes later it became known that Nikolaev had run on!

EDUARD NIKOLAEV'S CREW IS FIRST AGAIN
10 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from San Juan de Marcona (Peru),

"A huge sun-drenched beach and hundreds of vehicles on the sand. Exactly like Lac Rose in Senegal. The starting point of Dakar's Stage 4 reminded the racers of this cult and sacred finishing place of the Dakar that had been held in Africa till 2009. The organizers made it a real show having arranged a group start in all categories – the trucks went off in a line by twos. The first to start were Eduard Nikolaev's and Federico Villagra's crews. Although the sand had been loosened by the cars, they both took the maximum pace at once and in a minute they were already hidden in the boiling mirage of the coastal line.

DAKAR-2018, DAY THREE: VILLAGRA IS ATTACKING
9 January 2018

KAMAZ-master's Press Attaché Eric Khayrullin is reporting from San Juan de Marcona (Peru),

"On the way to a bivouac in San Juan de Marcona, the participants of the 2018 Dakar Rally passed a mysterious place – the famous Nazca Plateau – we all had learned about from Yuri Senkevich's TV programs. Scientists have long been breaking their heads over the origin of several dozens of mysterious huge drawings and lines drawn right on the ground. Assistance crews that have left Pisco early in the morning stopped on the roadside and with interest observed a strange figure with open palms raised in the air which is seen from a viewing point on the Pan-American Highway. The geoglyph with the talking name "Hands" was unwittingly associated with the gifted hands of the KAMAZ-master mechanics who had made a miracle on the eve of the start. Ayrat Mardeev's truck which had rolled over in the sands yesterday was quickly repaired by the morning. Another trouble appeared during the night trip to a refueling station – the back axle gear case started making unusual sounds. Experts know what it takes to replace a gear case in the truck, and if you have to do it in the middle of nowhere and under time pressure before the start, it becomes clear why motor sport fans respect night mechanics as much as star pilots.
