FORGE PLANT IS TO PRODUCE CRANKSHAFTS FOR PASSENGER CARS

27 October 2017

The forge plant of KAMAZ PTC (part of Rostec State Corporation) successfully passed a two-day production audit organized by Volkswagen Group Rus and won approval to produce crankshafts for passenger cars.

From next year, the forge plant will work as a permanent supplier with partners from Kaluga. According to Aleksandr Chekh, Deputy Director of the Forge Plant for Quality, there were serious preparatory activities and several visits of auditors before the final audit. The design and technological service of the plant had to solve the main bulk of tasks: to design a new forging from scratch, create documentation, prescribe all technological processes and organize preproduction. Everything complies with globally recognized requirements and standards. As a result, a serious commercial project was implemented in partnership with one of the world's leading manufacturers.

Aleksandr Kalashnikov, Director of the Forge Plant, noted that there are many new engineering ideas how to design a product and tools. "The forge plant has never made such high-precision products. But currently it is producing them in series efficiently," he stressed. "We've prepared a good basis: next year we'll manufacture diversification products more by a quarter, which means that our employees will get more workload and we'll be secured from risks due to market fluctuations."

The final audit assured the customer that the whole process is set up to ensure the serial production of the required number of high-quality crankshaft forgings for passenger cars. "The equipment we are using now enables to make 150 thousand forgings a year," Kalashnikov said. "And a modernization project and new equipment we plan to purchase will help us develop further and boost production. We've already started doing it."
