One more benchmark area has been organized at the automobile plant of KAMAZ (part of Rostec State Corporation). The mechanical means shop was put in order using methods and principles of Production System.
Improvements started with the workers' decision to take part in the Leader of KAMAZ Production System competition in the Best Working Place according to 5S System nomination. The idea to bring the area to a new level was supported by a foreman and a deputy shop foreman
The mechanical area manufactures means of small-scale mechanization for all subdivisions of the automobile plant — carts, grabs, fittings. Workplace management there required modifications, and the staff tackled the problem. The workers of the shop repaired equipment, re-painted tool cabinets, workbenches, carts, interoperational storage stand and tables. They hanged up visual plates, rationalized placement of containers, carts, interoperational tables, and also cabinets, points of delivery, shipment of components, materials, storage place for disposal facilities and trash containers, focusing on reduction of needless movements.
Besides, a system of addressed storage in an interoperational stand was developed according to peculiarities of this certain area. The team also paid attention to improvement of labour conditions in terms of safety. There is floor marking, warning signs to prevent injury-risk situations, better lighting on the area.
Now everyday meetings on the area are held in front of the team's renewed information board. It is convenient to report on the work done, record problems, elaborate plans there.
