New Laser Equipment at Repair and Instrument Plant

13 March 2017

There is now equipment that will enable to improve not only the quality of KAMAZ products, but also the tool supply system at the KAMAZ Repair and Tool Plant (part of Rostec State Corporation).

The laser installation was purchased under the Tibet project. The new tool that will be produced for an advanced engine must meet all quality standards. One of the quality criteria is correct labeling. For the last 12 years, drills, cutters and taps have been marked with necessary characteristics with the help of a laser machine too, but it has completely exceeded its lifecycle by now. In addition, a low-power beam left a clear trace only on a well-ground surface. At the same time, the engraving quickly erased if the place of application was not processed, and there was nothing left for the operators but to use their experience in determining the parameters of the tool.

According to Marat Zaripov, Chief Technologist of Repair and Tool Plant, the new installation has a much greater resource and capacity. "Better labeling makes it possible to trace the history of each tool and, consequently, analyze the entire support system and look for resources to reduce costs," he explained. The new generation laser has another function – an inscription can now be applied both along the axis and the diameter. The tool can have various configurations, but its "passport" should be durable. Also the installation enables not only to make a usual engraving, but also a 3D-marking, that is a mark. Such prints are widely used both at KAMAZ and in other enterprises.
