TIBET PROJECT ENTERING FINAL STRAIGHT

27 March 2018

The engine plant of KAMAZ will soon commission a line for processing of R6 cylinder head components under the Tibet project.

According to Head of the Shop of R6 Engine Part Production Aleksey Golovanov, the line is already mounted. It consists of six processing centers, two washing machines, two robotized sets pressing saddles, guide bushes, blind plugs and other parts, and also two stations for leak tests. The line will soon acquire a manual measurer with the help of which necessary measurements will be made for high-quality part production. Careful attention will be paid to quality assurance here: if a cylinder head component arrives at the next operation with any defect, the computer will inform about it, and the detail will be withdrawn from the conveyor.

The process of component manufacturing on the new line is the following. A cast from the foundry goes to a marker. It acquires an individual number and a QR code there, they are scanned and recorded in the computer. Then, the base is processed and holes are drilled to be used for stationing at subsequent operations. After mechanical processing, the detail is conveyed to the station for pressing of saddles and guide bushes which are cooled in nitrogen. Before this, it goes through washing chambers, a special cooling gallery. The detail goes to final polishing and washing sites, a station for pressing of blind plugs, undergoes leak tests. Before sending the detail to the R6 engine assembly conveyor, an operator and a quality controller accept details with account of measurements taken during the whole manufacturing process – all data are displayed on the monitor. By the way, ten people per shift will operate the new line. For now, there are four start-up experts and one operator, they are trained to handle every single operation. In the future, it is planned to hire more people, and new employees will in their turn be trained by the current personnel.

At the first stage, it is planned to produce 72 thous. cylinder head components a year. Later, with the output of 30 thous. R6 power units at the engine plant, the line will produce up to 180 thous. details.
