KAMAZ IS DEVELOPING A LINE OF K5 GENERATION CARS

10 August 2020

The Scientific and technical center of KAMAZ is working on the development of the main family of cars of the K5 generation. Next in line is the KAMAZ-65659 (6x2) tractor and the KAMAZ-65658 (6x2) chassis.

Along with the KAMAZ-54901 tractor, the design documentation for two versions of cars has been developed. This is a KAMAZ-65659 truck with a 6x2 wheel formula and a KAMAZ-65658 chassis with a 6x2 wheel formula. As explained by Igor Valeev, Deputy Chief Designer of KAMAZ PTC for cars, the main criterion for the development of these cars was to minimize fuel consumption while increasing the weight of the transported cargo and maintain the maximum permissible axial loads.

The KAMAZ-65659 tractor has a total weight of 26 tons and a technically permissible total weight of 44 tons as part of a road train. The car is equipped with an inline 6-cylinder KAMAZ - 910.10 engine with a power of 450 HP, the transmission is ZF Traxon. The cabin is 2500 mm wide, with a high roof and two sleeping places. The KAMAZ-65659 truck is technically unified with the KAMAZ-54901 car, but its key difference is the presence of a rear lifting axle, which allowed increasing the load on the hitch to 16.4 tons. At the same time, the mass of the towed semi-trailer is 34 tons. When there is no load, the rear axle rises, which reduces fuel consumption. The car is equipped with a hypoid drive axle, disc brakes on all axles, an electronic-pneumatic brake system, which also includes an anti-lock brake system (ABS), an anti-slip system (ASR) and a course stability system (ESP).

The KAMAZ-65658 chassis is designed for mounting various add-ons. Total weight – 26 tons lifting capacity – 16.3 tons, trailer weight – 18 tons, total train weight of 44 tons. The chassis is equipped with a 450 HP KAMAZ-910.10 engine and a ZF Traxon transmission. The cabin is 2500 mm wide, with a high roof and two sleeping places. Just like the KAMAZ-65659 truck, the key feature of this chassis is the presence of a rear lifting axle. The KAMAZ-65658 chassis is equipped with a hypoid drive axle, disc brakes on all axles, an electronic-pneumatic brake system, which also includes an anti-lock brake system (ABS), an anti-slip system (ASR) and a course stability system (ESP).

Today, KAMAZ-65658 and KAMAZ-65659 are undergoing acceptance tests at exploitation tests in NAMI site in Dmitrov, which should confirm the readiness of the car design for the start of serial production. Also, the new products perform runs, simulating real operation with different loads. In the near future, an experimental batch of KAMAZ-65659 truck tractors will be manufactured in the conditions of the main Assembly line for transfer to test operation. Serial production of the KAMAZ-65659 tractor is scheduled for the end of 2020, and the production of the KAMAZ-65658 chassis is planned for 2021.
