KAMAZ SHARED EXPERIENCE IN ENERGY SAVING

5 December 2017

KAMAZ's experts took part in the international conference Energy Saving. Science and Education held in Naberezhnye Chelny.

Chief Power Engineer of KAMAZ PTC Konstantin Chugunov delivered a speech on modernization of a compressed air supply system – switching over from a centralized system to local compressor stations. This project helped to save over 1.6 billion roubles for five years, and only 466 million roubles were spent on its introduction.

According to KAMAZ's chief power engineer, this project was launched, because the centralized system brought considerable expenses related to power and circulating water consumption, as well as losses of air supplied via long-distance air pipes. "We replaced the centralized compressed air supply system installed at the time of KAMAZ construction with local compressor stations located closer to production areas," Mr. Chugunov explained.

In 2010, we started to realize this idea that turned out to be an efficient saving tool. And already the first year saw a real cost reduction which was equal to hundreds of millions of roubles in monetary terms. In particular, the unit's power costs to produce compressed air for five years of operation were decreased by 28%, and the unit's costs for circulating water dropped by 45%. As a result, the project became one of the most successful one in the sphere of energy saving and paid for itself within 2 and a half years by a planned payback period of four years.
