Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra Gave a Concert in Naberezhnye Chelny

19 April 2017

The Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under legendary conductor Valery Gergiev gave a concert in Naberezhnye Chelny on the initiative of the top manager of KAMAZ PTC (part of Rostec State Corporation).

The concert was given during the Moscow Easter Festival which is devoted to the 135th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky this year and will pass in more than 20 regions of Russia. It is noteworthy that the city of Naberezhnye Chelny was included into the tour of the orchestra thanks to the personal request of Sergey Kogogin, Director General of KAMAZ, who has been on visiting terms with the world-known conductor for many years. Besides, this is not the first time Valery Gergiev comes to the city on the initiative of KAMAZ. Thus, in 2010 the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra gave a charitable concert, and money received from ticket sales went to the ICP Children foundation and the Emerald City project supported by KAMAZ. The musicians' next visit was in 2013, and the event was organized specially for KAMAZ workers to celebrate KAMAZ's 45th anniversary.

Without exaggeration, yesterday's performance became the event of the year in the cultural life of Naberezhnye Chelny. The audience heard such world music masterpieces as Suite from the ballet The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, Valse-Fantasie by Glinka, Suite from the ballet The Firebird by Stravinsky, Prelude by Claude Debussy, etc.

"I'm very glad and grateful to you for your arrival in our city despite your packed schedule", thanked Sergey Kogogin Valery Gergiev to the audience's ovation.
