MODERNIZATION IS UNDERWAY AT FORGE PLANT

4 April 2018

Large-scale projects are implemented at the forge plant of KAMAZ, some of them enable the company to save several millions of rubles a year.

The project for replacement of outdated automated complexes of rotary frequency changers (RFC) with modern induction frequency converters based on thyristor frequency converters (TFC) continues to be implemented step by step. In addition to two converters already operating at the plant, Forge and Stamping Building #1 (KPK-1) will receive two converters more to be installed at presses with a power of 6,300 tonnes in August or September. Thus, it's planned to fully replace all outdated heaters in KPK-1. The project is expected to save more than RUB 12 mn annually, and electricity costs for heating of blanks before stamping will be reduced by 30%.

Another important project in which the 21st and 31st automated lines of KPK-3 will be engaged is the production of new front axle beams for KAMAZ-6580 heavy-duty trucks. Their weight will be more than 130 kg which is by 20% higher than that of serial beams. This July, they are to make trial batches and deliver forged pieces for tests.

Next is modernization of the crankshaft line itself. After approval by the company's managing board, it's planned to conclude a contract in July-August, and modernization itself should be launched already in 2019: all manipulators, heating, control systems, many mechanical parts of pressing machines will be replaced. The production capacity of the line will finally increase 3-3.5 times. KAMAZ invests about three billion rubles in this project. Half of this sum is allocated for rehabilitation of KPK-3, and also new equipment will be purchased for tool production and operational control.
