REPAIR AND TOOL MAKING PLANT IS 45

4 April 2018

On March 28, the Repair and Tool Making Plant turned 45.

It was 45 years ago when the Repair and Tool Making Plant (RIZ) became a unique industrial ground where the first design and technological solutions were tested, and unique tools were made. According to Andrey Karpov, Director of the Plant, they had managed to create effective production at a rather small site. "Our employees perform all key functions – tool management, production of spare parts, repair of equipment. KAMAZ is focused on the development of the new lineup and a boost of production, so RIZ is keeping pace with the mother company," he noted.

In 2017, RIZ made products for 1,345,254 thous. rubles, including special tools for 344,590 thous. rubles, tools and accessories for production engineering for 148,750 thous. rubles, spare parts for technological equipment for 132,175 thous. rubles. For the second year in succession, the plant has been producing tools and accessories for the Tibet project under which the engine plant received more than 300 items for RUB 21.4 mn last year.

The enterprise is implementing tools of KAMAZ's production system. In 2017, RIZ implemented more than one hundred kaizen projects. The most effective project was Import Substitution under which the company developed the production of more than 310 tools and saved 7,397 thous. rubles. To add to this, last year 27 million rubles were saved thanks to the project titled Changes of the Cost System of the Engine Plant.

According to Andrey Karpov, today's priority is to develop and modernize production and engineering capacities, carry out production re-engineering. It's much cheaper to make tools and accessories at RIZ than to purchase them from partners. And in terms of quality products are not inferior to purchased tools, including imported ones, and even better in some aspects. "At the first stage, it's planned to buy six machined. Under the Tibet project, the first multifunctional processing center should arrive at the plant in September," told Karpov. "The general development program includes full modernization of production and purchasing of 46 units of equipment."
