KAMAZ once again became the winner of the Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia contest: the KAMAZ-6250 off-road bus got recognition in the Prospect of the Year nomination. The award ceremony took place at the Crocus Expo exhibition complex in Moscow on May 23, during the COMvex exhibition.
This year, for the first time in the history of the Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia contest, in addition to a jury consisting of journalists from specialized publications, there was an online voting in which industry experts could make their choice. According to its results, the KAMAZ-6250 off-road bus model was recognized as the winner in the Perspective of the Year nomination. By the way, a garbage truck based on KAMAZ Compass-12 won in one of the nominations too.
The KAMAZ-6250 all-wheel drive shift bus was developed by KAMAZ engineers for the oil and gas industry. This is an innovative all-terrain bus notable for its original design. KAMAZ-6250 can be equipped with various options of internal combustion engines – diesel, LNG or CNG, as well as equipped with an additional set of options – northern version and an additional range (for CNG) up to 550 km.
As for the exterior of the model, it is a full-fledged middle-class bus with a frame-panel mono-body, but not a truck with a conventional shift-type superstructure. The body received a bearing frame (welded from steel pipes) and an external decoration made of composites, the front mask of the bus has common design features with KAMAZ trucks of the K5 latest generation. The bus body is based on the KAMAZ-43502 (4x4) chassis. The bus is equipped with a 290 hp engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. For smooth running, there is a front suspension with long leaf springs, hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is pneumatic – on four pneumatic elements.
The cab capacity is 32 passengers or 23 passengers + luggage compartments. The model meets safety requirements: the bearing frame ensures passengers’ safety by rollover, seats with three-point seat belts are installed (for all passengers). The body is versatile and suitable for wider use – as mobile laboratories, meeting offices, medical stations, engineering centers, control points.
The Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia competition is held for the 22nd time and is an annual non-commercial event aimed at identifying the best commercial vehicle of the year in Russia in several nominations. The jury consists of journalists who regularly cover motor transport topics in their publications. The chairman of the jury is Alexander Solntsev, editor–in-chief of the Commercial Transport and Technologies magazine.
KAMAZ has repeatedly won this prestigious competition. Over the years, awards were given to the KAMAZ-54901 freight truck, its predecessor KAMAZ-5490, and the KAMAZ-6282 electric bus. Also in 2020, the company became the leader of the Special Prize (For Success in the Development of the Russian Market) nomination.
