WORKMANSHIP COMPETITION FOR DESIGN ENGINEERS

17 May 2018

A workmanship competition was held for young design engineers of the development unit at KAMAZ.

This year, the organizers decided to hold a traditional competition in a new format – according to WorldSkills patterns in order to know exactly whom to delegate further. A strict time limit of four and a half hours was given to the contestants to perform the main task – to design a 3D-model of an excavator the bucket of which was the focus of creativity – at KAMAZ's training centre – Regional Institute of Advanced Technologies and Business (RIPTiB).

For the sake of impartiality, the applicants were divided into two age groups: 18-25 and 26-35 years old. Relevant professional experience wasn't taken into account.

After considering the results, the jury selected six winners from 36 applicants. First place among the youngest went to already experienced contestant Regina Yakimova, Design Engineer of Category 1, Chief Designer's Service (CDS) for Engines (last year she became a silver prize winner of the IV National Championship of Cross-Industry Working Professions of high-Tech Industries under the standards of WorldSkills Hi-Tech in Yekaterinburg). Second place is taken by her colleague from CDS Takhir Islamgulov, Design Engineer of Category 3. Third place belongs to Aynur Fattakhov, Design Engineer of Category 3, CDS, Vehicle Units.

The winners from the second group are also seasoned campaigners who left their mark at Russian engineer festivals and competitions. First place belongs to Azat Nigmetzyanov, Leading Design Engineer, CDS, Special Vehicles. Second place was taken by Timur Khalimov, Leading Design Engineer, CDS, Engines. Third result was shown by Mikhail Ovechkin, Design Engineer of Category 1.
