For the company the beginning of 2018 was traditionally "Dakar": in the year of the 40th anniversary of the legendary race, which became an anniversary for the team "KAMAZ-master" too, "blue armada" for the 15th time in its 30-year history won "The Golden Bedouin". The team celebrated its birthday later, in December, adding to the list of victories the first and second places in the truck class "Silk Way Rally-2018".
In 2018, for the first time KAMAZ entered the Moscow market with electric-powered passenger transport. The contract for the supply of 100 electric buses and 31 charging stations to the Russian capital is being fulfilled. Unique electric buses KAMAZ-6282, created by the most complex technical customer’s task, require only 10-20 minutes to recharge from ultra-fast charging stations. This is the first experience under the life cycle contract, which provides the service of all the equipment for 15 years by KAMAZ.
In the first half of the past year, KAMAZ became the owner of a large holding company for the production of automotive components – “United automotive technologies” JSC (OAT). The holding includes 12 productions, the number of employees reaches 10,5 thousand people, revenue – more than 18 billion rubles. This significantly expands KAMAZ's automotive business and is strategically important for the development of competencies and technologies in the interests of the entire automotive industry of the whole country.
Another significant event was the demonstration of the unmanned electric bus "SHUTTLE" in Kazan during the Football World Cup. Currently, it is important to remove legislative restrictions on the movement of drones above conventional highways: The government signed a decree on the beginning of testing of unmanned vehicles on public roads. Already in 2019, KAMAZ will begin in test mode the operation of robotic vehicles with autonomous and remote control for internal inter-plant transportation.
Completed the construction of a new plant of the cab frames. The production site was built in just a year and a half, the installation and start-up of the equipment was completed. The cab frames produced on it for the new generation of KAMAZ trucks K5 will also be supplied to the Assembly production of Mercedes-Benz trucks.
Despite the difficulties, KAMAZ does not stop the development program, which requires significant financial investments. In 2018, the total investment in the development of the model range and modernization of production facilities amounted to more than 14 billion rubles. One of the most significant results of the investment program will be the launch of the K-5 generation on the market. Fundamentally new cabin meets all modern requirements, when it was created was relied on ergonomics, convenience and comfort of the driver. Generation of trucks K5 will be equipped with a KAMAZ engine of a completely new type – inline P6. These engines have a large specific power and will replace the V-shaped eight. Modern diesel engines of the ecological standard Euro-5, and in the long term Euro-6, correspond to the best world analogs in the class and are completely made on a new assembly line of KAMAZ plant of engines.
In 2019, it is planned to start the mass production of K5 generation cars, offering consumers the most modern equipment, and organize the serial production of KAMAZ trucks of K4 generation, working on liquefied natural gas. Also, efforts will be directed to the test operation of robotic vehicles with autonomous and remote control and the development of the electric bus generation "2+". It is planned to produce 1000 tractors with a wheel formula 4x2 and start the controlled operation of vehicles with a wheel formula 6x2. In addition, preparations will begin for the production of parts for a new family of heavy vehicles of the K-5 generation.
